Gilberto was the most used right-back by Jorge Jesus, Benfica coach, last season, with 36 appearances – against André Almeida’s five, who was seriously injured right at the start, and Diogo Gonçalves’ 31, who ended the season at holder – but that didn’t convince the Benfica fans and, apparently, the people who rule the club’s professional football.
However, he will be little available to leave Luz, which could complicate the construction of an ideal squad for Jorge Jesus, given that there will be an evident excess of players for the position.
