FIFA and UEFA excluded Russia from the next World Cup – they were going to meet Poland in the play-offs –, a sanction applied in the context of the military offensive in Ukraine. Even so, that federation decided to invite the coach Valery Karpin to renew his contract
The agreement between the two parties was reached, with the former Russian glory accumulating the post of Rostov coach. “The Russian Football Union (RFU) and the technical team have agreed to continue their collaboration until the end of 2022,” the body that manages local football said on its website. Alexander Dyukov, president of the RFU, also assured that the national team will continue to work, despite the suspension he was subjected to in international competitions.
“I am happy to have the opportunity to continue working with the Russian national team. I hope that very soon our football will return to the international scene and we will be able to participate in official games again”, said Valery Karpin, already with the national team training in Moscow, between 21 and 27 March, on the horizon.
