A BOLA – CA denounces aggression against Estrela-Benfica B (League 2) referee

The Refereeing Council of the Portuguese Football Federation denounced early in the morning that the referee of Estrela da Amadora-Benfica B, who ended up winning 6-3, was attacked at the end of the match. In a statement, the CA clarifies that the match referee, Miguel Nogueira, from AF Lisboa, reported having been attacked in the access corridor to the changing room used by the refereeing team at Estádio José Gomes, with one of those responsible for the aggression already identified and having the occurrence has already been communicated to the Disciplinary Board.

«The referee of Estrela da Amadora-Benfica B, of Liga 2, reported to the Refereeing Council, this Monday, aggressions in the access corridor to the changing room used by the refereeing team at Estádio José Gomes. One of those responsible for the attack was identified by the security forces present at the stadium.

The Arbitration Board has already reported the occurrence to the Disciplinary Board.

The CA vehemently repudiates this event, which it considers to be of the utmost seriousness, and expresses its solidarity with the refereeing team formed by Miguel Nogueira, Nuno Pereira, José Luzia and Pedro Brás. Sports venues must be places of safety, where everyone can exercise their activity freely. What happened this Monday in a professional competition is shameful and deserves the swift and total punishment of those responsible.

The Arbitration Board appeals to all sports agents to the need to guarantee security in the events they organize and for which they are responsible.

Cases like this Monday’s cannot be repeated.

The Arbitration Board will provide full support to the arbitration team.”
