Russia lost on the visit to Croatia (0-1), in the last round of Group H of the European qualification for the 2022 World Cup. It was only the second setback for Valery Karpin’s team in the competition.
A match played under very adverse weather conditions and which was decided with an own goal. On 81′, defender Kudryashov inadvertently pushed a ball into his own goal and dictated the Russian defeat.
With this result, Croatia climbed to first place with 23 points and guaranteed a direct presence in the 2022 World Cup. Russia dropped to second place with 22 points and will play in the play-off. Slovakia (14) and Slovenia (14) were third and fourth, with Cyprus (five) and Malta (five) making up the group.
