18-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz made history by becoming the youngest tennis player ever to make it to the quarter-finals of the US Open.
Two days after having surprised Stefanos Tsitsipas, also becoming the youngest tennis player to eliminate an opponent from the world’s top-3 at Flushing Meadows, Alcaraz sealed the qualification for the quarter-finals with a triumph over German Peter Gojowczyk, winning in five sets by the partials of 5-7, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 and 6-0, in three hours and 26 minutes.
In the match that decides his presence in the semi-finals, Alcaraz will face Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, who left the American Frances Tiafoe on the way, winning 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6) and 6-4.
