A passer-by alerted the rescue. An inanimate body was spotted Monday afternoon in the Loire at the Basse-Indre-Indret ferry pier, west of Nantes, reports the local fire brigade and rescue services (Sdi). The Loire-Atlantique firefighters mobilized their water rescue specialists and managed to bring the body ashore around 4pm.
The victim was pronounced dead. He was a man in his sixties. A gendarmerie investigation was opened to identify the body and determine the circumstances of the death.
Most of the bodies recovered in the Loire are the result of suicide, often from the Cheviré bridge.
