A boat that sank in Sicily may have been linked to an attempted murder

One of the dead found on Monday is Canadian-Antigua chef Recaldo Thomas, who worked on the yacht. British businessman Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah Lynch, Morgan Stanley International director Jonathan Blumer and his wife Judy Blumer, American lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda Morvillo are also among the dead.

In all, there were 22 people on the yacht, 15 of whom survived. Among them is Lynch’s wife, who owned the company a yacht and a yacht captain.

At a press conference on Saturday, the Chief Prosecutor Ambrogio Cartozio announced that an investigation into the murder had been opened.

Most of the victims were found on the left side of the yacht, where it appeared that they were trying to escape​​​​​​at the time of the sinking, said the representative of the Fire and Rescue Service.

Experts are now baffled as to how the yacht could have sunk in 60 seconds. Italian media, citing the coast guard, said that the hatch of the yacht was left open and her hull was partially inflated, causing her to sink quickly. However, investigators say that although the wreckage of the yacht has not yet been recovered, it is still too early to judge.
