The state is starting to save in a big way and is looking for opportunities where it can be cut. Unsurprisingly, he finds them among pensioners, who in previous years were the group that profited the most of all. Pensions were skyrocketing compared to real wages, even at a time when it was clear that savings should be started. As is the rule, the emergency brake is pulled too late and, moreover, in areas where it is not exactly the most suitable.
You are not entitled to that
For one thing, pensions themselves have seen their growth moderated significantly, with speculation that they should be frozen entirely until real wages catch up. The proponent of such a proposal is, for example, the chairman of the National Economic Council, Mojmír Hampl. However, this will be a very difficult step to pass, so it is practiced in other areas.
The state contributes to pensioners in various ways. For example, until now they could participate in pension savings, including the state allowance, which is very interesting. However, they should definitely lose it from July 1, 2024.
“The purpose of the support is to create savings for retirement age. When the participant becomes a recipient of an old-age pension, the state contribution loses its meaning, because the third pillar then functions de facto as a mere short-term savings product with state support,” argues the Ministry of Finance quite logically.
They screwed the pensioners
It might seem really strange that even people who already receive a pension from the state cash the pension savings contribution. But the truth is that people’s situations are different. For example, someone takes a pension but still works, either because the pension is not enough for them or because they just want to earn extra. Why shouldn’t such people continue to save?
Pension savings companies then have another argument. In this way, retirees are motivated to create reserves, which they can then use in unexpected situations, or for an even later phase of their lives.
Currently, these products are used by a large number of pensioners. It is about 750 thousand of them. The cancellation of the allowance will affect all of them and it will mean thousands of crowns per year in their impoverishment. Regardless of the fact that pension savings will become unattractive for them, so they will probably cancel it, which can be evaluated as risky behavior.

In addition, many of them cannot even give notice, because they have not reached the age of five. If they canceled the product now, they would also lose support retroactively. As it seems, the state has put its pensioners in a really unflattering situation that they have to deal with.
