A forecast of 59 blood donors was made for the mobile blood collection, organized Thursday, October 31, by the French Blood Establishment (EFS). Forty-seven people showed up at the village hall, including two new donors and 43 bags were taken. Dr Peggy Cygler, departmental sampling manager at the EFS, thanked the people who came. “We had fewer donors than expected and the needs still remain very high. We have not been able to achieve the desired stocks in the last two months and we must plan for the end of the year which still remains very fragile due, among other things, to public holidays,” the doctor intervened, adding that it is still possible to donate blood at the fixed site in Chaumont, 35, avenue des Matériaux, whose usual opening times are Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (tel 03.25.35.36.30) and that a person wishing to donate blood can also make an appointment. via the link: https://mon-rdv-dondesang.efs.sante.fr
Among the new donors were Emma, 19, and Alice, 18, both from Bologna. “I couldn’t give blood as soon as I turned 18, because it wasn’t physically possible. I know that sick people may need blood as I know that I would be happy to have some if I were sick and a transfusion was necessary,” said Emma, relayed by Alice: “You have to give blood for the sake of others, it is extremely important.”
As always, the members of the Bologna Volunteer Blood Donors Association were hard at work to promptly serve the donors immediately after they gave their blood and, as usual, they added a dessert to the traditional snack: homemade waffles.
Raising awareness among young footballers
A blood donor took the initiative to bring in around thirty budding footballers, whose ages ranged from 6 to 15 years old. The doctor explained to them the importance of donating blood. Thus, these children and teenagers will have plenty of time to think about the subject since you can only start donating blood from the age of 18.
