A Maryland man was sentenced to one year in jail for hosting parties at his house that violated coronavirus restrictions in the state.

Shawn Marshall Myers, 42, was arrested in March after throwing two parties at their home in Hughesville, Maryland, both with at least 50 guests, at a time when the emergency order issued by the governor prohibited gatherings of more than 10 people, reported NBC News.

On March 22, the police went to the house after receiving a report from the neighbors. As the Charles County state attorney explained in a statement, Myers argued with the agents but finally agreed to end the celebration.

However, less than a week later, the police again received a call for another party in the same house, also with about 50 guests. On this occasion, according to the statement, the man again argued with the agents and did not want to end the celebration.

“It is not as if the police have suddenly arrived and told him that he was going to jail. They gave him a warning. He had at least 50 people the first day and then two, three days later, he was doing the same, “added the prosecutor.
