A bitter love story | Sächsische.de

Dresden. Since October 2020, a 22-year-old Kurd from Iraq has had to answer before the Dresden Regional Court. Lewin P. stabbed his 22-year-old girlfriend Huda in February 2020. The young man is therefore charged with attempted murder. Even after almost three months of taking evidence, it remained with this momentous stab – but practically everything else around this bloody act has completely changed. This week the trial will end.

At the moment it is the prosecutor’s turn. She started her plea shortly before Christmas, but had to interrupt her final lecture after about a quarter of an hour. That alone shows the curious development. After several witnesses turned out to be liars in early November, the jury rushed to schedule another four days of meetings. And now, in the middle of the plea, defense attorney Jürgen Saupe had to leave because of another commitment.

After the public prosecutor’s first half-round plea, it is clear that she no longer assumes “attempted murder” either – but what she accuses the accused instead, he and those involved in the process will only find out on Tuesday. At first it all looked like a perfectly clear one.

Several witnesses had lied

Lawin P. threatened Huda. Allegedly he had persecuted her against her will for years and stalked her. Because now he may have threatened his deportation to Italy, P. wanted to get the 22-year-old to accompany him. They had already fled together from Iraq to Germany in 2016/17.

This version, the result of police investigations, had vanished in the main hearing. Several witnesses had obviously lied, first and foremost the injured party. At first she testified as always.

Lawin P. had been silent for a long time and only admitted in the course of the evidence that he stabbed his girlfriend in the evening of February 2 in Hugo-Bürkner-Park in Strehlen. However, he described the connections completely differently. And only when the court summoned Huda for the third time to question her again did she admit that she had wrongly incriminated the accused – and still loved him.

A long-hidden love affair came to light under the influence of Kurdish families who had identified a different future for their children. Huda, who gave birth to a child from P. at the end of 2017 and put it up for adoption under pressure from the family without his knowledge, admitted that she had told Lawin that the baby had died.

Investigations against witnesses?

The 22-year-old also reported that she was supposed to have married another man on the initiative of her mother and her partner. In fact, after escaping together, she had repeatedly met with Lawin P. in secret – also overnight in Dresden in the apartment of a mutual friend. During police interrogations and during the trial it was obviously the aim of the witnesses not to tear down this building of lies.

On the day of the act, Huda also told Lawin for the first time that his child was still alive. Perhaps that was one of the reasons why P. had lost his temper and stabbed Huda. He had never lost the belief that his child could still be alive.

In the pleading of the public prosecutor’s office, further reasons and inconsistencies are listed why the original version was not confirmed from the point of view of the prosecutor. It will also have to be checked to what extent the witnesses made themselves liable to prosecution with their false statements.
