A biker dies in an accident involving a deer in Pierry, near Épernay

A dramatic accident took place this Wednesday July 27 at the end of the afternoon on the D40 between Pierry and Cuis, near Épernay. The crossing of a deer will have been fatal to a motorcyclist, aged 61.

It is around 5:20 p.m. when the Honda brand motorcycle heads for Épernay. Presumably, the pilot cannot avoid the deer, just like an oncoming vehicle. The motorcycle swerves, hits the embankment before ending its course in the field below the roadway. The pilot and his passenger, who would be from Calvados, are ejected from the two-wheeler.

While waiting for the firefighters, a motorist rescues the motorcyclist by starting a cardiac massage. When the sappers from Épernay and Vertus arrived, the 61-year-old victim was in cardio-respiratory arrest. Despite the resuscitation attempt, the Smur doctor dispatched to the scene declared the pilot dead one hour after the accident.. The passenger of the motorcycle is injured in a forearm, her life is not in danger. She was transported to the Épernay hospital center.

As for the two occupants of the Clio, the car involved in the accident, they are unscathed. Despite the emotional shock, they remained on site at the disposal of the police who cordoned off the scene.
