The event called Speed Marathon takes place every year on our territory, i.e. on the territory of Europe, and always sends all possible police patrols into the field to measure speed, not only the secret ones, but also the marked ones. The places and sections of the measurements themselves are selected here not only by the police, but also by the public, using internet voting.
And since it is a transparent event, you can prepare for it, as the Czech Police Presidium has published on its website a complete list of places, locations and sometimes even times where (and when) the speed will be measured. There will also be vehicles for covert surveillance, i.e. inconspicuous five-pin Bavarians.
The Europe-wide Speed Marathon 2024 will start from the early hours of the morning, by which we mean four in the morning, and will continue throughout the rest of the day until midnight.
According to our police, the aim of these Speed Marathon preventive actions is primarily to reduce traffic accidents and increase road safety. However, the given day will also have an effect on the collection of fines and a hefty contribution to the state coffers.
Fines and points
If you are caught and convicted by the Czech police during the Speed Marathon 2024 on Friday, April 19, 2024, you may be fined depending on the speed limit.
If you drive up to 10 km/h in the village and outside it, then you leave with an on-the-spot fine of up to 1,500 CZK, or you will be fined 2,000 to 5,000 CZK if you lose the administrative proceedings.
Exceeding the speed by 10 km/h more in the municipality or outside it is assessed with an on-the-spot fine of 1,500 to 2,000 CZK, i.e. in administrative proceedings for 2,000 to 5,000 CZK. Attention, you always get 2 penalty points on your driver’s card.

It will be measured all day, from early morning to midnight.
If you step on the gas more, i.e. you exceed 20 km/ha more in the municipality or 30 km/ha more outside the municipality, the amount of the fine on the spot is 2,500 to 3,500 CZK, in administrative proceedings 4,000 to 10,000 CZK, and in addition, you “win” 4 points to the driver’s card.
The biggest pirates in the Czech Republic who exceed the speed limit by 40 km/h more in the municipality or 50 km/h more outside the municipality cannot count on a fine on the spot, but on a solution in administrative proceedings, which starts at the amount of CZK 7,000 and ends to 25,000 CZK. They will receive 6 points and also take a break from driving for 6 to 18 months due to the imposed ban.
So on Friday, April 19, 2024, take your foot off the gas and also don’t forget to check the validity of your driver’s license, as more than 300,000 are expiring this year.
