A big change for a popular phone. We were forced to, says the manufacturer

Apple’s iPhones are about to undergo a big change. The company’s management recently admitted that it will replace the Lightning charging connector inside them.

Two members of Apple’s top management were recently featured on a podcast The Wall Street Journal Tech live. The discussion moderator asked if people would expect a USB-C port on this company’s phones as well. “Obviously we will have to adapt, we don’t have much choice,” replied the company’s marketing director, Greg Joswiak.

USB-C is the most popular connector on consumer electronics. Until now, Apple has mainly used its own Lightning port. The main advantage of USB-C is the increased data transfer speed or the universality of its use. You can connect an external disk, monitor and other accessories.

The European Parliament will not just force Apple to change. There was recently voted on a proposal to unify the 2024 consumer electronics connector. MEPs hope this will make life more comfortable for consumers, but it will also improve the environment. Apple already in declaration he said various regulations stifle innovation instead of driving it.

The first generation of iPhone arrived on the market in 2007 with a Dock connector. It wasn’t until the sixth generation of phones that it included a Lightning port. This will be the second change of this important part of the phone. The doors are gradually modified on the other products of the company. USB-C has been present on MacBook laptops for several years, and recently the latest version of the iPad tablet also received the port.
