A bicycle park will be built in Sarkandaugava: reconstruction of Aldars Park has started in Riga – Latvia – News

The territory of the existing basketball court will be improved in the territory of the park, creating a bicycle park there.

A gardeners’ house will also be built, which will serve both for the management of communications (electricity, water supply, sewage collection, etc.) necessary for the operation of the park, and for the management of greenery and lawns.

Toilets will also be located in the building and available for the convenience of park visitors. Rehabilitation of the paths in the work area will be performed, as well as landscaping of the territory and installation of improvement elements (waste bins, seat elements). These works are expected to be completed by autumn 2021.

During this time, the construction area will be demarcated and access to this part of the park will not be possible.

In order to prepare the park area for reconstruction, the removal of old, dangerous as well as worthless trees and shrubs will start this week where it is planned. During the works, car traffic on Gaujienas Street will be restricted for the safety of residents.

In turn, the 3rd phase of the park in the future envisages restoring the tower, creating an amphitheater area, a stream fountain, a playground for children,

as well as a treadmill and long jump area for the needs of Riga Secondary School No. 28. The implementation of the 3rd round of works depends on the possibilities of attracting funding.

As a result of the procurement procedure, the general partnership “Guliver Construction” has been entrusted with the reconstruction of Aldara Park, construction supervision will be performed by SIA “Jurēvičs un partneri”. The authors of the project are the general partnership “Re-Arta”.

Aldara Park is one of the oldest parks in Riga, built at the end of the 19th century as a brewery owner’s mansion with a pond and artificial castle ruins.

In the 1930s, the park was rebuilt and used for the needs of President Kārlis Ulmanis, but after the Second World War, the park became a public area.

It has already been reported that the interim administration of Riga City Municipality decided to allocate 742,368 euros from the Riga City Infrastructure Fund for the reconstruction project of Aldar Park.

The cost of renovating the park is estimated at 3.5 million euros. The municipality has previously indicated that it plans to raise about 2.4 million euros for the reconstruction of the park through European funds, but to allocate about 650,000 euros to it.
