A bear roams the streets of the Romanian city of Ploiesti

The Romanian authorities are alert because of a bear seen on the night of Saturday to Sunday in the streets of the city of Ploiesti, Agerpress agency reports.

Representatives of the District Inspectorate of the Gendarmerie told Agerpress today that the animal was not caught because it was not possible to locate it. The bear was last seen in the northern area of the city, near the Vega refinery.

The inhabitants of Ploiești – a city with a population of about 200,000 in the southern part of Romania, were warned by a message on the RO-ALERT system about the presence of the animal.

The deputy mayor of Ploiesti has convened a working group on the case, which includes representatives of a number of institutions, including the police and the hunters’ association.

This afternoon, the authorities again issued a warning to residents about the presence of a bear in the village of Păuleşt, which is located a few kilometers from Ploiesti, Agerpress also informed. However, it remains unclear whether this is the same bear that was wanted in the city.

Agerpress recalls that a few years ago a bear was caught in Ploiesti.

On Saturday morning, a bear was seen on a street in the town of Kampina, which is located 30 km from Ploiesti, the agency also reports. Residents of the city were alerted through the RO-ALERT system.
