This Friday, the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) reported that a batch of 406,000 BCG vaccines arrived in the country, which prevent serious diseases in young children, such as miliary tuberculosis or tuberculosis meningitis.
The vaccine is applied to minors within the first 24 hours of life or up to 11 months and is part of the authorized regular schedule, the institution said in a statement.
As part of the strategy to prevent and eradicate chronic child malnutrition (DCI), the ministry plans to purchase 1.2 million vaccines to supply facilities that attend births. Until December of this, more batches of vaccines will be received.
The entity highlighted that although the BCG vaccine is supplied in hospitals within the first hours of the babies’ life, it is important that parents and caregivers continue with the vaccination process that children should receive, taking the infants in the corresponding times for the doses to be applied.
Regular schedule vaccines protect minors from serious diseases such as poliomyelitis, acute diarrhea, measles, among others.
Attention in health centers in the 24 provinces is from Monday to Friday, from 08:00 to 16:00. In the case of health brigades, they will provide services according to scheduled visits, the ministry indicated. (I)
