The law banning smoking in enclosed public spaces, which came into force on March 17, makes the first victims. Sorin Stanca, the owner of the “Rabbit Club” in Timişoara, looks at the empty tables, which were once full of coffee, beer and happy customers. The club is mostly frequented by rockers and motorcyclists, ie people who do not go to bars to drink plain water with lemon, and who had made a “temple” of their own there.

“The anti-smoking law came into force. We have worked hard for this historic day. We threw away the ashtrays, ventilated, bought flowers and put them on the tables to welcome non-smokers who could not come to us until now because of the smoke. For breakfast I ate two packets of Orbit Winter Fresh and a box of Tic Tac, to have a fresh breath during the frothy talks I would have had with non-smokers. I wanted to meet these wonderful people who militated for this law. It’s been three hours and none have come … Non-smoker, if you’re still alive and the cafe is empty, don’t panic. You find us behind the cafe, we sit outside in the cold and smoke. Now you feel respected, don’t you? ”Sorin Stanca wrote on Facebook, with a mixture of irony and disappointment. In just a few hours after the publication, the message was distributed by over 500 people.
Instead of ashtrays, the owners put flowers on the table
