ACTIVITY PREMIUM. Parliament has reached a compromise on the exceptional back-to-school bonus. This inflation check will be paid to beneficiaries of the activity bonus and social minima.

While the Senate had revoked the back-to-school bonus for the poorest, preferring a support measure for workers, Parliament reached a compromise: the new inflation check promised at the start of the school year will be paid both to recipients of the back-to-school bonus. activity and social minima (RSA, AAH, Aspa…). As a reminder, the government has promised exceptional aid of 100 euros per household, to which must be added 50 euros per child. The envelope allocated is increased to 1.1 billion euros.
The activity bonus was introduced the 1is January 2016 to replace the active solidarity income (RSA) and the bonus (EPP). It is paid to workers with the lowest incomes. Student employees, trainees and apprentices can also claim it under certain conditions. The application for the activity bonus is made from a teleservice on the Caf website Or on the one from MSA. Faced with the rise in inflation in recent months, the State has carried out an automatic revaluation of the activity bonus. Since April 1, the activity bonus has increased by 1.8%, like the active solidarity income (RSA). Thanks to this increase, the lump sum for a single person reaches 563.68 euros against 553.71 euros so far. In total, 4.5 million people benefit from the activity bonus.
Who is entitled to the CAF activity bonus? Condition and ceiling
There are several eligibility conditions to respect to receive the activity bonus:
- Being older than 18
- Live in France permanently, that is to say that the duration of stays outside France must not exceed 3 months per calendar year (or from date to date). Moreover, the activity bonus is not only paid only for the full months of presence in France. For foreign nationals (outside the EEA), with some exceptions, it is necessary to hold a residence permit or, for at least 5 years, a residence permit authorizing work
- Employed students, trainees and apprentices over the age of 18 can also benefit from the activity bonus on the condition of assuming alone the responsibility of one or more children or of having a professional activity, whether salaried or not, of which the net income exceeds 974.12 euros per month (the internship gratuity is however not included in the calculation of this professional income)
note that the posted worker is not entitled to the activity bonus. The same is true for a person parental leave of education, in sabbaticalin leave without pay or in availablity unless it receives earned income.
What activity bonus for an apprentice?
The legislator has decided that the activity bonus would be intended for people who have already entered the labor market. Students or people on work contractslearning can however benefit from the bonus under certain conditions. Student employees who receive more than 974.12 euros per month (that’s to say 78% of net minimum wage) during the three months preceding their application may be entitled to the bonus. The same is true for apprentices or young people in business internship who earn 78% of the minimum wage.
For students and apprentices, the fact of living with their parents does not change the conditions of access to the bonus. However, things are different for apprentices and students living as a couple. In this case, the CAF considers that the couple lives in concubinage and income is pooled. Wages will therefore add up and can exceed the eligibility amount.
What activity bonus for a couple?
An increase in the activity bonus is planned depending on the composition of the applicant’s household. Its rate is:
- 50 % for the first person in addition
- 30% per additional person
- 40% per person in addition beyond the 3e person if the household includes more than two children (or dependents under the age of 25, with the exception of the person with whom the applicant lives as a couple: spouse, Pacs or partner)
As a reminder, the activity bonus is allocated taking into account all household resources : as soon as the person with whom the applicant lives as a couple receives a certain level of resources, he may not be entitled to the activity bonus even if he is on the minimum wage.
Is it possible to receive an increased activity bonus for isolation?
The activity bonus can be increased for single parents, i.e. single, divorced, separated or widowed with dependent children or pregnant. The increase is granted from the month in which one of these events occurs:
- Declaration of pregnancy
- Birth of a child
- Divorce or separation
- Death of spouse
The increase is granted for 12 monthscontinuous or discontinuous, duringa period of 18 months following the event. Whether the youngest child is under 3 years oldthe increase is granted until he was 3 years old. Its amount varies according to the number of dependent children. It is necessary that inquire with the Caf or the MSA.
What is the minimum wage to receive the activity bonus?
To be entitled to the activity bonus, salaried students and apprentices must receive for at least three months, a minimum salary of 974.12 euros net monthly. For employees, the minimum amount is 618.32 euros to perceive it. There is also and income limit not to be exceeded to be eligible for the activity bonus (see below).
What income is taken into account for the calculation of the activity bonus?
The amount of the activity bonus corresponds to the difference between the lump sumto know 553,16 euros, et all of the applicant’s resources. If in addition to income from professional sources, the latter has other resources (return to work allowance, Family allowances…) these are deducted from the rights to the activity bonus.
The amount of the activity bonus also depends on:
- Housing benefits received (ALF, IF or APL)
- The benefit in kind granted for occupying a dwelling free of charge or in case of property.
These aids and benefits in kind are assessed monthly and on a flat-rate basis according to the number of people in the household.
What is the ceiling for the activity bonus?
To benefit from the activity bonus, the applicant must not not exceed a certain amount of income. These resource ceilings vary depending on the situation. It should be noted that these ceilings do not take into account a flat rate housing, housing assistance or other resources. The self-employed (artisans, liberal professions, traders and farmers) whose income does not exceed a certain ceiling may benefit from the activity bonus. The activity bonus allocated to them is calculated on the basis of the latest industrial and commercial profits (BIC) or non-commercial (BNC) declared to taxes or, in the absence of a BIC/BNC declaration, of the quarterly turnover.

In calculating the activity bonus, the Caf takes into account family benefits, AAH and housing allowance received on the last three months. The self-employed must also declare their last turnover and the amount of their profit in year N-2. Attention, a decree of May 2017 modifies the rules for calculating the activity bonus for self-employed workers in order to take account of their particular situation. Since July 1, 2017they can calculate their right to the activity bonus (but also to the RSA) from their quarterly turnover (instead of their net annual income).
Following the simulation, an amount is given. This is indicative. It is also possible to use the website mes-aides.gouv.fr. It allows to simulate the amount of 33 social benefits including the activity bonus.
How do I apply for an activity bonus?
The application for the activity bonus must now be done online. On the website of the caf for applicants who depend on the general scheme and on that of a MSA for those who depend on the agricultural diet. Two forms are available on the Caf website : one for people who are not yet CAF recipients and the other for people who already are.
The latter must provide their beneficiary number, their postal code, their date of birth and their secret code. You must apply before the end of the current month to receive the bonus from the following month. People who have difficulty filling out the online form can go to the Caf nearest to them to try to obtain information or to their agricultural social mutuality (MSA) branch.
What is the amount of the activity bonus?
The lump sum of the premium is of 563.68 euros per month for a single person on April 1, 2022. It varies according to the income of the beneficiary’s entire household. The activity bonus can also be increased depending on the composition of the household (the number of children therefore has an impact on the amount) and/or the isolation of the parent. A single person with a dependent child will receive 845,52 euros et 1014,62 euros for a single person with two dependent children.
The calculation of the amount of the activity bonus is as follows: (lump sum possibly increased + 61% of professional income + individual bonuses) – household resources taken into account.
Is the activity bonus taxable?
The activity bonus is not not taxable. This means that you do not have to pay income tax on the amounts received in this regard. You don’t have to declare it to the tax authorities either. And this, regardless of your income and the amount of the premium.
On what date is the activity bonus paid?
The activity bonus is paid from the 5th of the month. For the first request, if the applicant has submitted his file to Caf before the end of the month, the premium will be paid the 5th of the following month. The same will apply for all the months in which he is eligible for the bonus.
When it is granted, he receives the bounty for three months. For example, if the request was made in January, the applicant will receive the bonus in February, March, April. The transfer is sent every 5th of the month. After this three-month period, you must again declare their resources to check their eligibility. The declaration is made on the Caf website via the quarterly declaration tab but also via the “Caf mon compte” app and on the MSA website. In the event of refusal to grant, the applicant for the activity bonus has the possibility of request an appeal.
Is the activity bonus retroactive?
Non, the payment of the bonus is not retroactive. This means that it is only possible to receive the activity bonus for the months following the request, even in the event of eligibility in the previous months.
