The man must also pay a fine
A 98-year-old man from Varna was found guilty of large-scale tax evasion, the press service of the Varna District Court announced today. According to the indictment, from April 2007 to April 2008, he hid the truth in the personal income tax declarations submitted to the National Revenue Agency and did not pay a total of BGN 11,902. For this crime, his sentence was six months in prison, suspended for three years of probation. The man must also pay a fine of BGN 1,000, BTA reported.
The accused was acquitted of a charge of using copyrighted software. The court accepts that this is an administrative violation and does not impose a penalty on him due to the expired statute of limitations.
The same charges were brought against the defendant’s 74-year-old girlfriend, with whom he lives on a conjugal basis. According to the court, no evidence of a crime was collected against her and she was acquitted.
The sentence against the 98-year-old man is subject to appeal before the Court of Appeal in Varna within 15 days.
