– A 9-year-old British girl is saddened by an accident where she dies after eating a bite of ice cream.
The British Daily Mail reported on the 25th (local time) that a 9-year-old girl, Habiba Kisuti, fell into a hotel that evening after eating ice cream with chocolate sauce at an ice cream shop and was urgently transported to the hospital, but died two days later.
This girl was desperate for a vacation with her family on the coast of Costelhall, Spain in February 2019.
The inspector in charge identified Habiba’s cause of death as “anaphylactic shock (irritable shock).”
Lethal amounts of nuts were found in Habiba, who was usually allergic to nuts and eggs.
Anaphylaxis shock is a disease in which allergic symptoms appear rapidly throughout the body within a short time after exposure to an allergen or specific stimulus.
More than half of the causes of anaphylaxis are food, and typical symptoms are skin symptoms such as rash and itchiness.
However, it rarely causes respiratory problems, and in severe cases, blood pressure drops and faints or dies.
At a hearing held at the Bradford Inspector’s Court on the 25th, Habiba’s father told the ice cream seller at the time that he had checked three times whether nuts were in the ice cream.
At that time, the ice cream seller answered “no,” but it was confirmed that the ice cream that Habiba ate contained five kinds of nuts such as peanuts and almonds.
“Allergic patients are fatal enough to lick ice cream once,” said Professor Marta Cohen, a pediatric pathologist at Sheffield Children’s Hospital, who went to court as a witness.
