A 73-year-old man from the Caguas region is the 143rd death victim of the COVID-19 in Puerto Rico, confirmed this Wednesday the Health Department.
The agency reported that this death was added through the Demographic Registry after being certified by clinical criteria. In the previous three days there were no reported deaths.
“With this added fatality, the total number of deaths recorded through the Surveillance System remains at 63 and those reported through the Demographic Register add up to 80. It is important to remember that any death recorded after the report is issued will be reflected in subsequent reports, “the agency said in a press release.
While, the total number of unique positive cases amounted to 5,329 with 122 recent cases and another 22 positive results of serological tests that had not been reported in almost two months.
“Samples from these cases were taken from April 9 to May 27. These results were identified through the efforts of different entities, clinical laboratories, and the Department of Health to ensure that all samples made for COVID-19 are registered in the Bio Portal, regardless of the date it was taken, “defended Salud.
Of the 122 reported cases, 16 were processed by molecular tests and 106 by serological tests.. Given this, the total number of positive results of molecular tests was 1,402 and that of serological tests was 3,927.
Meanwhile, the number of patients hospitalized for the virus was placed at 97, of which eight are confined in an Intensive Care Unit and five are connected to an artificial respirator. To date, hospitals have 3,821 beds and 837 respirators available for adults.
Almost three months after the start of the emergency, San Juan remains the municipality with the highest incidence of the disease with 717. It is followed by Bayamón with (322), Guaynabo (254) and Carolina (250).
Regarding the age groups with the most reported cases, the 50-59 age group dominates the statistics with 1,073 infected, followed by the 40-49 year old (942) and the 30-39 year old (805).
