A 69-year-old male remand person in custody at Stanley Prison died of illness in a public hospital today.
The man was remanded in custody in November last year for breaking and entering. He suffered from lymphoma and had been required to receive treatment and follow-up at institutional hospitals and public hospitals. He was sent to a public hospital for treatment on August 26 and remained in the hospital. His condition worsened during his stay in the hospital, and he was confirmed dead at nearly 11 a.m. today.
The Correctional Services Department has informed police of the incident and the Coroner’s Court will hold an inquest.
