A strong 6.5 magnitude earthquake hit the border area between Nevada and California early Friday morning. The earthquake was recorded at 4:07 a.m., with an epicenter about 35 miles west of Tonopah, Nevada, south of the city of Carson City and just 1.7 miles deep, as reported by the National Geological Survey.

At least four aftershocks have followed the telluric movement, the magnitude of which had been preliminarily reported at 6.4. At the moment there are no reports of injuries or structural damage.

The area around the quake “will continue to experience more tremors than normal. Some may be larger, but most smaller,” the Geological Survey warned on Twitter.
