The fire broke out last year on Sunday morning on Lehtoniementie in Varkaus. A body was found in the apartment. The police said shortly after the incident that the fire was suspected to have been set on purpose.
On the same day, the police arrested several people whose involvement in the fire was investigated. The next day, the police announced that the crime of the case is homicide and that there is one man in custody, who was later imprisoned.
Iltalehti reported at the end of June that the crime title has hardened from manslaughter to murder. During the investigation, the police were tight-lipped about the incident and did not reveal the reasons why the case was investigated as a murder.
Ten were evacuated
Neighbors discovered the fire on Sunday, May 28, and reported it to the emergency center at 2:42 a.m.
The fire did not spread to the other apartments in the Luhti house. About ten people were evacuated from the building. The apartment above the burned apartment suffered smoke damage.
