An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 was recorded this Sunday morning 35 kilometers south of the town of Bartolomé Masó, eastern province of Granma (Cuba), reported the US Geological Survey (USGS, for its acronym). in English).
According to the USGS, the depth of the earthquake was 14.2 kilometers. At the moment, there are no reports of victims or material damage.
The earthquake has been clearly felt in several areas located to the east of the Caribbean island, especially in the city of Santiago de Cuba and other nearby towns, says the Cuban Directory. Likewise, aftershocks are reported.
For their part, the authorities of the National Center for Seismological Research (Cenais) have already activated monitoring in the region, while they are evaluating possible damage to structures and basic services in places near the epicenter.
The earthquake has also been felt in other countries in the region, such as the United States, Jamaica, the Bahamas, as well as in the Cayman Islands, a British overseas territory, says CMKX Radio Bayamo.
