A 42-year-old’s complaint: “Insulted and beaten because he was homosexual”

(ANSA) – CREMONA, 05 SEPTEMBER – “Insulted and beaten because I am homosexual”: in the reconstruction of the facts presented by the victim in the complaint filed at the police station, there is the alleged homophobic motive for the attack that took place yesterday evening in the centre of Cremona. There, at 9:30 pm, a 42-year-old was hit in the face with a can and, after the first intervention of 118, was taken to the emergency room. The prognosis is a few days and the police are investigating the case, which is combing through the images recorded by the video surveillance cameras. A witness, a friend of the victim, said: “We were walking when we came across a group of boys. One of them, after having spotted the rainbow bag that my friend was carrying over his shoulder, shouted ‘you’re beautiful’ adding a homophobic epithet. My friend reacted with piqued words and at that point the same young man who had said the insult approached in a threatening manner and hit him in the face with a can, causing a cut on his cheek, a few centimetres from his eye; then he tried to kick him in the side, but the bag cushioned the blow”.
