Dmitry Ivanenko established a national record in the 3000 m steeplechase at the Belarus Open Indoor Athletics Cup. The representative of the Mogilev region won this discipline with a result of 8:21.05 seconds.
The previous national achievement in this indoor discipline belonged to Soviet and Belarusian track and field athlete Nikolai Karpovich. It lasted for more than 33 years: Karpovich covered the 3000 m distance with obstacles in 8.23.76 seconds. in 1991 – at the USSR Championship in Volgograd.
The Belarusian record in this outdoor discipline has not been updated for 43 years. In 1980, in Moscow at the Znamensky Brothers Memorial, Alexander Vorobey ran the 3000 hurdles in 8.25.2 seconds.
