The police arrested a 23-year-old man from Sittard on Monday in the case of the death of Xavier Durlinger. The man is suspected of killing nineteen-year-old Durlinger last year.
Durlinger was reported missing on May 12 last year. A week later his body was found in a forest near the De Kollenberg district in Sittard. Since then, police have been investigating the circumstances surrounding his death. After months, that led to the 23-year-old man from Sittard.
The arrested suspect is suspected of murder or aggravated manslaughter. That means he may have killed Durlinger to cover up another criminal offense. The suspect is currently only allowed to have contact with his lawyer.
The police tracked down the suspect thanks to tips, information and support from citizens. “All of this is an essential contribution to the investigation into Xavier’s death,” the investigation team said.
Discovery Requested paid attention to the case four times. That led to more than a hundred tips. The TV show aired CCTV footage showing a man riding Durlinger’s bicycle. The arrested person is suspected to be the cyclist in question.
In May last year, a nineteen-year-old man from Sittard was already arrested for possible involvement in Durlinger’s death. He was later released, but remained a suspect in the case.
