A 23-year-old American woman killed in Kabul has become a symbol of the tragedy in Afghanistan

Last week we saw her holding a rescued baby in her arms. Just days later, Nicole G was killed in the Kabul bombings shortly before the end of her mission.

Nicole Gee, 23, a U.S. Marine on a mission in Afghanistan, is holding an Afghan baby. The photo was posted on social media by herself with the caption: “I love my profession”.

But just a few days later, the young American from Sacramento, California, is no longer alive. She is one of the victims of the attacks that shook Kabul last Thursday. The attacks killed more than 100 civilians and 13 American soldiers, including 23-year-old Nicole G.

Extremists in Kabul again attacked the airport in the Afghan capital with rockets. The evacuation of people from the country continues in conditions of extremely high danger.

Nicole’s colleague is also holding a rescued baby

“I can’t describe the feeling that overwhelms me when I think I’ll never see her again,” said Mallory Harrison, Nicole G’s colleague for three years.

“Until her last breath, she was doing what she loved so much: helping people. And suddenly she was dead – just like that,” Harrison wrote.

The Afghan wing of the Islamic State terrorist organization, known as IS-X, has claimed responsibility for the attacks in Kabul. This branch of the Islamic State has long been at enmity with the Taliban. The IDF considers the Taliban “traitors” and accuses them of not interpreting Sharia law harshly enough.

Meanwhile, the US Department of Defense published the full names of the 13 soldiers killed last Thursday in Kabul. It is clear from the list that 12 of them were under 25 years old.
