A 16-year-old broke into the homes of families with children and murdered three – the Swedish court gave a completely exceptional sentence – 2024-08-29 06:20:58

The perpetrator convicted of triple murder said he was satisfied that he “had time to do something” before he was caught.

The teenagers were recorded so often and on so many security cameras that the preliminary investigation has more than 300 pages of security camera images. Police preliminary investigation material

The Södertörn district court in Sweden has sentenced four people for triple murder on Wednesday, August 28. The acts take place for about a day in October of last year. The then 16-year-old boy attacked the homes of two different families with children on two consecutive nights, where he murdered a total of three people.

We wrote more about the course of events and the victims in this article. The actions were part of an internal conflict within the Foxtrot gang.

– The shootings were unheard of and extremely ruthless. Three people were executed. Two adults and five children were targeted by an attempted murder in their own home, described the district judge who presided over the trial Sofia Jungstedt In the opinion of the Södertörn district court.

Minors to prison

Three of the convicts are minors. In Sweden, it has been customary to sentence minors to a closed youth home in accordance with the recommendation of the Criminal Code. This time, the district court decided differently, and the verdict is completely exceptional in the country’s criminal history.

At the time of the crime, the 16-year-old boy was sentenced to 12 years in prison for three murders, seven attempted murders and aggravated firearms offences. At the time of the crime, a 15-year-old boy was sentenced to 10 years in prison for inciting murders and attempted murders, aiding and abetting murders and attempted murders, and aggravated firearms offences.

District judge Jungstedt commented to SVT that he does not know of a single previous case in which a 15-year-old at the time of the crime was sentenced to prison.

Jungstedt tells Iltalehti that the young age of the perpetrators has been taken into account in the length of the sentences. An adult would be sentenced to life imprisonment for similar acts.

Jungstedt says that the execution of the sentence itself is no longer affected by the age of the young people. Juveniles sit in prison in the same way as adults, i.e. they can get parole after serving two-thirds of the sentence.

According to information from Aftonbladet, a piece of paper on which the perpetrator had written a message had been found in the main perpetrator’s cell in pretrial detention.

– However, I had time to do something before I got caught, Aftonbladet quotes the note.

In the same message, the perpetrator is said to have expected four years of a closed youth home as punishment. He wrote that he plans to focus on money and drugs in the future instead of killing people.

The story continues after the picture.

Two other factors

Two other factors were also involved in the incident. At the time of the crime, the 15-year-old girl was sentenced to a youth home closed for two years and two months for aiding and abetting murders and attempted murders, and for aggravated firearm crime.

At the time of the crime, a 21-year-old man was sentenced to 16 years in prison for aiding and abetting murder. He remotely paid for taxi trips to and from the murder sites.

Arson and an attempted arson were also part of the criminal case. Among the perpetrators, a 15-year-old girl and a boy at the time, were convicted of aiding and abetting arson and its attempt. In addition, a 21-year-old man at the time was sentenced for aiding and abetting aggravated arson.

The boy convicted of three murders has only confessed to the crime of firearms – he was caught with a gun. Otherwise, all perpetrators have denied all crimes.

The verdict can be appealed to the Court of Appeal, so it is not legally binding.

In the forensic psychiatric examination, the main perpetrator was found to be responsible, i.e. he did not suffer from a serious mental health disorder at the time of the acts.

The research, which normally lasts four weeks, had to be stopped after only one week at the specially designated facility. However, the research report was given to the district court and it was deemed sufficient.

The research had to be stopped, because about a week after arriving at the research institute, the perpetrator ended up in a violent conflict with an employee. The day after the incident, the perpetrator made a death threat to the staff and was armed with a plastic fork bent to a sharp point. He also threatened to hurt or kill himself.

The institution stated that the risk of serious violence is high. Therefore, the perpetrator was returned to pretrial detention.

Difficult childhood

The state of mind survey includes a statement from social care. It shows the author’s difficult circumstances as a child. At home in Somalia, the family with six children was financially very tight, and the author could not go to school at all. Before arriving in Sweden, the family lived in a refugee camp in Ethiopia.

The family applied for asylum in Sweden in 2017. At that time, the 11-year-old boy started school for the first time. He couldn’t read or write, and the beginning of school was challenging. According to the statement, he often ended up in “very violent” conflicts with other children and school teachers. The boy did not accept that he could not study at the same level as other children due to his limited basic knowledge.

– He said that the teachers are ruining his life when they don’t give him the same education as other classmates, the social welfare report says.

Iltalehti does not publish the authors’ names, as they are minors.
