A 4th grade student at the Albert Matin Samba high school lost his life last weekend following a swim with friends in the Dourouni River, in the first district of the commune of Mouila.

The announcement of the death of young Nnang Menié Elias Jérémie, 13 years old, in 4th grade at the Martin Samba high school in Mouila, continues to fuel certain conversations in the city, particularly in the Dourouni district, in the first district of the commune of Mouila , where the latter lived.

Obviously, the sadness has not yet left the hearts of the people around him. But what really happened?

According to a judicial source, the victim and her friends, also relatives, had decided to go to the home of one of their comrades, the past Saturday, for some study time. Not finding the latter at home, on the way back, while a river is nearby, one of the teenagers suggests a swimming trip.

The four friends agree. But the victim, newly arrived in the town of Mouila, does not inform others that he does not know how to swim. As he begins to take cups, the others manage to get him out of the water while warning him not to continue. But some time later, certainly attracted by the atmosphere of those who were bathing, he dived again without the others knowing.

By the time his friends were alerted by the other young man, who remained on the edge, it seemed too late. With the current, and the water level, due to recurring rains, the first searches carried out by the adolescents proved unsuccessful.

The latter, overcome by panic and fear, quickly went to seek help. But the young man’s body would not be recovered until the next day, precisely on Sunday.

Having come from Libreville this year to continue his studies in Mouila, young Elias leaves behind a family grieving by his early death.
