Another serious case of children infected with flu was recorded in Hong Kong: a 13-year-old girl returning to Hong Kong from the UK started experiencing facial swelling and nausea on Sunday (11) and lost consciousness the next day. On the same day, she was taken to the emergency departments of Gleneagles Hospital and Queen Mary Hospital for medical treatment before being admitted to Queen Mary Hospital.
According to the CHP, the girl’s nasopharyngeal swab and blood samples were positive for influenza A virus and group A strep, respectively. She is currently in critical condition and the initial clinical diagnosis did not rule out that her illness was related to an influenza A infection complicated by shock; her new test for coronary pneumonia was negative.
He developed symptoms in the UK before returning to Hong Kong
The girl was in good health in the past: the day before her return to Hong Kong, i.e. last Friday (9), she started coughing, sputum, sore throat and fever in the UK. The CHP reminds the public to be vigilant against influenza and appeals to eligible citizens to receive influenza vaccination as soon as possible.
