Some students of the Mariengrundschule Kapellen experienced their autumn vacation this year a little differently than usual. Instead of spending their days off at home or on vacation, they took the opportunity to take part in a voluntary support program at the elementary school to help them overcome any deficits they might have because of the Missed lessons in the past school year have to be worked through.

It all started at 8 a.m. in the communal cellar of the St. Georg Scouting Society in Kapellen. After a common morning circle with greetings and games, the pupils of the first to fourth grades as well as the individual Montessori classes sat down at the support folders individually compiled by their teachers and were supported by student teachers. The focus of funding was on the main subjects mathematics and German. After a warm lunch together, the support day for the children ended at 2 p.m.

Vivian Schwitalla, Sophie van Eek and Steffi Vermöhlen designed the entire support program to be as varied as possible and supplemented it with various handicrafts and games to ensure that the students of the individual grades still got a little holiday mood. Corona-friendly group games took place, autumn decorations such as wreaths and hedgehogs were made and a trip to the playground was made. The farewell was celebrated in a self-built cinema with delicious popcorn.

The week not only ended with a good gut feeling on the part of the teachers and supervisors, the pupils of the Mariengrundschule also felt better prepared for the coming school weeks and said goodbye to a wonderful first week of vacation in a good mood.
