Superior comfort and a lot of thirst
As long as the previous model (437 cm), it is completely new: only the door hinges are taken from the old one Range Rover Evoque. It offers 2 cm more for the legs of those occupying the sofa and has a slightly enlarged trunk, although it still remains small. But above all it is better finished and more comfortable: even if the large 20 ”rims are mounted, the absorption of the holes is very good. As well as soundproofing. Diesel or petrol, the 4x4s with the nine-speed automatic transmission are “light” hybrids: the 15 HP electric unit flanks the 2.0 in starting and fuel consumption. In reality, the contribution is negligible, yet the car enjoys the facilities granted to other hybrids, such as free access to some Ztl. On the other hand, even when cold the four-cylinder does not make its “voice” heard and always offers a good boost. Luckily, because the automatic, with almost unnoticeable shifting, engages the high gears as soon as possible and maintains them until the accelerator is fully depressed.
This strategy helps to contain the noise and consumption of the Range Rover Evoque; the latter, however, are almost the same as the larger Velar with the same two-liter non-hybrid version. The fault lies in part with the high weight (1880 kg), which also penalizes agility and, together with the standard M + S tires, braking. In any case, the car is predictable, stable and has precise steering. And in the off-road (even challenging) he gets along very well. Despite being significantly more expensive than its rivals, the S in the test is close in equipment to the basic version: it has seats with electric adjustments and leather upholstery as standard, but no advanced driving aids (provided, with useful 360 cameras °, in the Driver Assist package).
In any case, the safety of the Range Rover Evoque is of a high standard: in 2019 the car earned the five-star Euro NCAP rating. In tests by the European body, the automatic braking worked very well, except in cases of pedestrians crossing the road at night and the presence of cyclists. The ClearSight Rear-View Mirror is innovative: by acting on a control, the interior mirror becomes a 9.5 ” monitor that presents what is captured by the camera integrated in the roof antenna, at a very wide angle. It is particularly useful when loading objects up to the ceiling, for full rearward visibility. Thanks to special keys, you can vary the brightness and the framing. Its main drawback? It requires a different focus of the eye than the one normally used to look through the windshield: it takes a little getting used to.
