No question about it: Except for the empty spectator stands, the game of the Gladiators against the Artland Dragons made for a felt normality for four quarters. But we are not in that. That’s why the league has to be realistic and say: Keep playing without a break makes no sense.

A positive corona test: Now it has hit the gladiators. Before that, the Kirchheim Knights and Phoenix Hagen. What remains is a game plan that already has gaps after three weeks that cannot be filled in the short term. Even if they were: The athletic class is replaced by the factor of chance.

Because even if the team strictly adheres to the hygiene rules, no club is protected from positive tests. The consequences of this are doubly bitter, because the games not only have to be rescheduled, there are also two weeks of team training missing. A factor that can be decisive.

The probability that no further games will be canceled after the gladiators quarantine is zero. And then? The mortgage on outstanding games is growing, the time until the end of the season is becoming scarcer. Apart from the fact that every time you stick to training and games, the health of the players is endangered.

Each of us would like to get some normalcy back. But this time is not normal. So: The league should check off 2020 and interrupt the season until the end of the year. May 2021 get better.
