Balve – The SPD local association Balve is sending its new deputy parliamentary group leader Yalcin Geyhan (31) into the race as a potential successor to the local SPD member of the Bundestag, Dagmar Freitag, who will not be running next year.
Lawyer Geyhan, who has been a member of the Social Democrats for eight years, an expert citizen since 2015 and a councilor in Balve since the local elections in September, was elected as a candidate from Balve on Monday evening during the annual general meeting of the local local association. The first to congratulate were the local association chairman Thomas Vogtmann and the member of the state parliament Inge Blask.
Dagmar Freitag, who announced last week that she would withdraw from federal politics in 2021 and not want to run again, has been in the Bundestag since 1994. She always ran in constituency MK II, which includes the cities of Altena, Hemer, Iserlohn, Menden, Neuenrade, Werdohl and Plettenberg.
The decision is made by the sub-district
The decision with whom the SPD will run for the federal election in this constituency is made by the SPD sub-district at a party conference. What chances Yalcin will have there is completely open. Because it is very likely that other, larger local clubs will follow suit and nominate their own candidates.

That is why Geyhan is now concerned with finding enough supporters in the SPD sub-district. There is only one delegate from Balve in the vote. “With my candidacy I want to take responsibility for this office, but also set an example against hatred and right-wing extremism with my political commitment,” said Geyhan, summarizing his ambitions. “In terms of content, I want the world’s leading companies to be able to keep up in the digital age. In addition, further opportunities are to be created for young families to move to our region, where they should find both a good job and a safe place to live and live. ”
In 2021, the delegates of the SPD subdistrict will vote on the candidates proposed to them by the local and city associations.
