Ernst Daniël Smid is working on an autobiography, which should be published in September 2021. His publisher Xander Uitgevers announced this on Monday.
In the book, the 67-year-old singer will mainly discuss his career and talk about the people who played an important role in it. Last year Smid announced that he has Parkinson’s disease and he will also talk about this in the book.
The artist left on Saturday as a result of his participation in the RTL 4 program The Masked Singer On RTL Boulevard know that he wants to break the taboo surrounding his brain disease. “The annoying thing is that your right hand is shaking and your voice becomes a bit monotonous with talking,” said the singer. “Anyway, I’m not going to hide myself. I want to break the taboo of that brain disease.”
The baritone singer is known for several operas and musicals in which he played, including The Traviata in Wretched. He was also part of the singing trio De 3 Baritons, together with Henk Poort and Marco Bakker.
In 2008 he was made a Knight of the Order of Oranje-Nassau for his services to classical music and his efforts for good causes.
Smid was married to former ballerina Rosemarie Giesen van der Sluis, who died in 2012 from the effects of pancreatic cancer. With her, the artist got daughter Coosje (29), who is also active in the music and acting world. Smid was shown the program with his daughter From Pop star to Opera star.
