Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – According to the assessment of the teachers’ association for education and upbringing (VBE), many teachers and students in NRW experience starting school after the autumn break on Monday with “more than mixed feelings” https://www.sueddeutsche.de/bildung/ “The same will be the case with parents who send their children to schools,” said VBE state chairman Stefan Behlau in the morning at WDR5. In view of the rapidly increasing number of corona infections, the only proposed solutions by politicians are to ventilate classrooms and wear masks in secondary schools.
“Corona shows very clearly where the deficits are not only in the present but also in the past,” said Behlau. “Far too little has been invested in school education.” This affects the staff and also the school buildings. Students and teachers would have to pay for that now.
The teachers’ association would like smaller learning groups as a measure against Corona – but there are not enough teachers for that. In addition, announcements would be hoped for, “how things really go on now”. Further steps – such as an arranged shift operation – would have to be prepared.
After two weeks of autumn break, around 2.5 million students and more than 200,000 teachers in North Rhine-Westphalia will return to class on Monday. New corona rules apply immediately. Most important change: Students from the 5th grade must wear a mouth and nose cover again in class. The reintroduction of the mask requirement should initially apply until the Christmas holidays on December 22nd. In the school building and on the premises, it continues to apply nationwide at all more than 5500 schools – including elementary and special school pupils at primary level. Teachers must always wear a mask if they cannot keep the minimum distance of 1.5 meters. If the lessons require it, they can at least temporarily take them off.
