The recovered US President is traveling to Florida for the first time after recovering from Covid. His personal physician attests that Trump “no longer represents a risk of transmission for others”.
New York is already lost, California is well on its way: “New York has gone to hell”, “California is going to hell”, “Illinois has no place to go.” Sad, isn’t it? ”The US president apparently started his working day with a Twitter tirade that only Donald Trump can deliver. “Vote Trump!” Is what he says at the end of his numerous Twitter posts on Monday morning local time.
After his Covid 19 illness, Trump is also resuming his campaign trips. Florida – a potentially crucial state for the November 3rd presidential election – will kick off. For the next few days, Pennsylvania, Iowa and North Carolina are on the agenda. Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus cases is rising in the United States – and at previous Trump appearances, many of his supporters did not wear masks and did not keep their distance.
In the past few months, Trump has had a steady rhythm of campaign trips, during which he made an appearance at the airport, mostly with the presidential plane as a backdrop, and then returned to Washington. The coronavirus infection interrupted the series.
Trump made his first public appearance since the illness on Saturday. He spoke from the balcony of the White House to several hundred supporters. With a good quarter of an hour, the performance was rather short by Trump’s standards. The event was considered a presidential address – Trump literally repeated various points from his Campaign appearances.
“No more risk of transfer”
Trump’s doctor Sean Conley announced over the weekend that the latest coronavirus test had shown “according to currently accepted standards” that the president “no longer poses a risk of transmission to others”. Trump can now, around ten days after the first symptoms appear, end his voluntary quarantine in accordance with the criteria of the CDC health authority.
The tests in the course of his illness had shown a steadily decreasing virus concentration, Conley continued. However, he did not write that a corona test with the president was negative. It therefore seemed likely that the most recent test was still positive because of a low virus concentration.
Dispute with epidemiologist Fauci
Meanwhile, Trump’s campaign team got into a dispute with leading American coronavirus expert Anthony Fauci. An interview quote from Fauci was cut into a commercial, giving the impression that he was saying that in the fight against the virus, nobody could have done more than Trump. Fauci criticized the statements from an interview published in March with the broadcaster Fox News had been taken out of context.
“I can’t imagine anyone could do more,” says Fauci in the video. However, these words were related to the work of the entire coronavirus working group of the White House, he emphasized on Sunday. His name and words were used without his permission. “In my nearly five decades in the public service, I have never publicly supported a political candidate,” Fauci told CNN.
In the USA with around 330 million inhabitants, there are more than 7.7 million confirmed infections with the Sars-CoV-2 pathogen. To date, more than 214,000 people have died related to the virus.
