The separation is almost over. A divorce by logical mutual consent that ultimately satisfies both parties. On January 14, 2014, the municipality of Thionville granted the Vacances Tourisme Familles (VTF) association a public service delegation for the management, operation and animation of the real estate complex of the Domaine de Volkrange. The agreement then covered a period of twelve years. Finally, she is already living her last hours.
“In a few months, we will put an end to the DSP, informs the mayor, Pierre Cuny. It’s better for everyone. VTF understood this well ”. In recent years, the Domaine de Volkrange has plunged into relative anonymity. This feeling is reflected in the recent activity report submitted to the City by the delegatee. The annual accounts for 2018 already showed a deficit of € 273,604. And the following year follows this downward trend. With the exception of receipts related to hosting groups and excursions, all other activity items are down, such as the hotel industry (€ 27,774 in receipts in 2019 compared to € 69,023 in 2018) and especially catering, with an accounting result of € 236,442 (€ 273,236 in 2018). A bad patch, in short, which led to a certain impasse.

“We are starting from scratch”, image Pierre Cuny. The mayor of Thionville has charged his 2e Assistant Jackie Helfgott to color his designs for this tourist site. In his mind, two drafts are already springing up, two axes of development likely to revitalize the place. The first way to revive it: get the Volkrange park out of its lethargy, “to make it one of Thionville’s parks in the noble sense.” It must become a place more familiar to Thionvillois, as the Napoleon Park can be, the chosen one aspires. The amphitheater must come to life. We can also think of the development of a water course and the creation of an arboretum. The association Vivre aux 3 Villages (V3V) could also have a say in the field of animation.
Second way to relaunch: the building. Pierre Cuny would like a hotel professional to restore luster to the rooms of the castle. An ambition that continues with the catering section: “The setting is magnificent. It should appeal to private investors. »All that remains is to flush them out to tip the Domaine de Volkrange into a Renaissance era.
