Again riots in Italy over corona rules, new measures expected

The approximately 250 protesters had gathered after a call from the far-right Forza Nuova. This group speaks of a health dictatorship, because the government is considering stricter measures against the virus.

Shortly before the start of the demonstration, Forza Nuova leader Giuliano Fastellino said he deliberately ignored the curfew to make his point. “You can’t tell me that a minute after midnight there is suddenly a virus and a minute earlier there isn’t.” According to him, Prime Minister Conte is violating the law with stricter covid rules.

‘Don’t let your attention slip’

The day before, a protest against a curfew in Naples had already resulted in disturbances. There, entrepreneurs, among others, took to the streets because they fear bankruptcy due to a lockdown

In Italy, a record number of infections was again reported yesterday, 19,644. Prime Minister Conte warned that “our attention must not be weaker”. He is expected to switch to stricter measures for all of Italy today or tomorrow. According to Italian media, schools are moving completely to digital education, nightclubs are closing and the catering industry is closing at 6 p.m. Citizens are also advised not to travel outside their own place of residence.

Conte says he is willing to do everything he can to prevent a complete lockdown like earlier this year.
