Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, born in 1989, was elected to the US Congress for the Democratic Party at 29. Before running as a barista, she is the youngest congresswoman in American history and, from day one, she fought for the weakest and for women. Which, once again, defends against attacks by some members of the Republican Party. Trump, of course, included. Let’s see how and especially why.

Young, prepared and beautiful. But most of all Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, for everyone AOC. Or rather: almost everyone. The spirited congresswoman from the Bronx, the youngest elected to parliamentary office in US history, puts everyone in line. Even President Trump, guilty of having named her, speaking of Green deal, during the Nashville debate.
But let’s go in order.
The president, pressed on environmental issues, of which Ocasio has always been a supporter, wasted no time in mentioning her. However, using the diminutive AOC and not the full name. The first reaction of the new Yorker of Puerto Rican origins was by surprise: if they had told me three years ago, while I was bartending to help my family, I would never have believed it – she wrote in a tweet.
Then, instead, the change of course. This is an opportunity, once again, to underline the little respect that many Republican politicians show towards women of the same level, calling them by their nickname and not their full name. Also adding a warning: women, pay attention to it.
