Man (33) sentenced to 10 years in prison for attempted murder in garage in Southeast

A 33-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for an attempted murder in a parking garage in Southeast, where he shot a man in the back in January 2019. The man also had a pistol and cartridges in his possession.

The shooting incident in which the victim was injured happened on January 10 last year on Karspeldreef. The victim was watched at a gym by a 22-year-old accomplice.

At closing time, it was already late in the evening, the victim walked to his car in the adjacent parking garage. There he was shot at around 11:15 pm. The victim then ran back to the gym for help and collapsed at the desk. However, he was still approachable.

Research shows that the 33-year-old man and his 22-year-old accomplice were video calling while the victim was still active in the gym. It also appears from tap conversations that the man was sorry that the victim was not dead. The motive probably lies in a conflict over narcotics.

Judge ruling

The court considers it proven that the 33-year-old man made a premeditated attempt to murder. In addition to the 10 years in prison, the convicted man also has to pay damages of 25,455 euros.

The 22-year-old accomplice has been sentenced to 4 years in prison, including 2 years on probation with a three-year probation period for complicity in attempted murder. He also has to pay the victim a compensation of 25,455 euros.
