KOMPAS.com – Khabib Nurmagomedov announced his retirement from the world of mixed martial arts ( MMA) after ending the duel UFC 254 contra Justin gaethje with victory.
Duel Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Justin Gaethje which was held at Fight Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Sunday (25/10/2020) in the morning WIB ended in the second round through submission.
Khabib Nurmagomedov has the right to defend the lightweight champion belt (lightweight) UFC thanks to this win.
Khabib’s victory was also marked by a series of impressive records.
First, he’s unbeaten with a 29-0 winning streak.

In addition, Khabib also holds the record for the longest winning streak (13) on the UFC stage.
However, Khabib’s impressive record was certain to stop after he announced his retirement.
In his statement after the duel against Gaethje, he also explained the reasons for retiring from the UFC event.
The retirement decision taken by Khabib did not escape the departure of his father, Abdulmanap, on July 3, 2020.
He admits that he cannot continue to fight without his father’s presence.

Khabib had also promised his mother that a duel UFC 254 against Gaethje will be the last fight of his career.
He felt responsible for keeping that promise.
“Today is my last fight. It’s no longer possible for me to fight without my father,” said Khabib after the duel against Gaethje.
“When the UFC told me about the fight with Gaethje, I spoke with my mother, three days after my father passed away,” he said.
“Mother did not want me to fight without my father, but I promised my mother that this was the last. When I promised, I had to keep it,” said Khabib.

At the end of his statement, Khabib also revealed his last request to the UFC.
“This is my last fight. My final request to the UFC is that you have to make me the number 1 fighter pound for pound in the world because I deserve it, “said Khabib.
“I am a true champion in the lightweight class without defeat. Thank you for everything,” said the Russian fighter.
