Würzburg (dpa / lby) – After the agonizing death of a baby in Lower Franconia, a man will stand before the Würzburg district court from Wednesday (October 28). The public prosecutor’s office accuses the 23-year-old of murder. The defendant is said to have mistreated his girlfriend and her baby over and over again. On December 20, 2019, the situation escalated to such an extent that the eight-month-old boy died.
According to the Federal Criminal Police Office, 32 children under the age of six were violently killed in Germany last year. More than 1,700 have been shown to have been mistreated. In many cases, the perpetrators can be found in the family. Overtaxing is usually the cause; many experts consider the known cases to be the tip of the iceberg.
The public prosecutor’s office in Würzburg accuses the German of having maltreated the boy in the Gemünden am Main area (Main-Spessart district) with blunt force and ultimately suffocating him. The now 21 year old mother found her son lifeless in his bed. The prosecution assumes that the man viewed the child as a nuisance and acted out of low motives. He is said to have been violent towards the mother and baby in the weeks before the crime.
During the autopsy of the body, forensic doctors discovered evidence of older injuries on the little one’s body. The charges are five cases of assault, abuse of wards and murder. The suspect has been in custody since December. Ten negotiation dates have been planned for the process so far.
