End! The world champion says goodbye to hockey

Without exaggeration, he is one of the best Finnish players of the 21st century to compete in European hockey competitions. With the Suomi national team, he became world champion, winning the club-level title in Finland, Sweden and the KHL. But he won’t add another, Janne Pesonen decided to end his active career at the age of thirty-eight.

Pesonen achieved the greatest success with the national team in 2011, when he helped with two goals at the championship in Slovakia, including one in the final against the Swedes, to win a gold medal. He started at the World Championships five times in total.

But Pesonen also gained success in clubs. With Kärpät Oulu, where he also worked last season, he won the Finnish top competition four times between 2004 and 2008.

In 2010 he won the Gagarin Cup for KHL champions with Kazani and eight years later he triumphed with Växjö in the Swedish league. In the 2007/08 season, he played in the NHL for 7 games for Pittsburgh, but did not score in the most famous hockey league in the world.
