Thesis – Lorena’s thesis, entitled “Selective immunodeficiencies: chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis”, was evaluated by a commission, chaired by the Rector, Salvatore Cuzzocrea (also as co-supervisor). Discussing the work was her friend and colleague Vittoria Patorno.
The ceremony was attended, among others, by friends and colleagues from the degree course, the Vice Rectors, the Department Directors, the Assistant Prosecutor of the Messina Public Prosecutor, Giovannella Scaminaci, Caterina Minutoli (representing the Prefect of Messina), Maria Andaloro , creator of the “Occupied position” campaign and the President of the University Single Guarantee Committee, Prof. Concetta Parrinello.
“I greet all the authorities present – commented the Rector – and in particular the mother and all the relatives of Lorena. During a conference we promised that this day would come and it did, to give a sign, together with the other institutions. Today. there is an empty chair in this room, but in reality it should have been occupied by Lorena to crown her studies. I thank the mother and the family for allowing us to be close to them, in memory of a daughter of the University. many other events and awareness-raising initiatives, so that similar acts of cowardice are never repeated “.
He prof. Carmelo Damiano Salpietro, the girl’s supervisor, traced a memory of some moments of the student’s studies: “The thing I remember most about Lorena was her enthusiasm for what she was doing. When she was welcomed into the ward she immediately sympathized with colleagues and patients, especially younger ones. I remember with pleasure the twentieth anniversary of a conference during which he was the speaker and introduced the speakers. At Christmas he sent me a greeting card in which he revealed his most great dream, that is to become a pediatrician. I’m sure she would have realized it and would have been very good, prepared and competent, as she was during the research for her thesis “.
