Number of deaths last week 400 higher than usual | Inland

According to the Central Bureau for Statistics, the higher number of deaths coincides with the emerging second wave of the corona epidemic in the Netherlands.

Last week, more people aged 80 or older died in particular, a total of 1800. Relatively many people also died in the age group up to 65 years. Almost as many men as women died.

During the first wave of the corona epidemic, about 10,000 people died of confirmed or suspected Covid-19 deaths. Of all corona deaths, 60 percent received long-term care. These are chronically ill, frail elderly and people with a serious mental or physical disability.
