Demonstration against Omnibus Law Turbulent, Ambulance Burned, Nasdem Party Office Damaged

MAKASSAR, KOMPAS.com – A demonstration against the ratification of the Omnibus Law on the Job Creation Act which was held on Jalan AP Pettarani right in front of the UNM campus Makassar, Thursday (22/10/2020) ended in chaos.

The demonstrators and local residents clashed. Throwing stones at one another was inevitable, causing residents who wanted to cross the road have to take another alternative route.

Result clash That, the Nasdem Party DPD office on Jalan AP Pettarani was also damaged by unknown people. In addition, the Nasdem party ambulance which was in the office yard was also burned.

From monitoring Kompas.comInitially, the student action which lasted until that night only closed Jalan AP Pettarani.

The demonstration, which started at 17.00 WITA, was running smoothly. Dozens of students gave speeches rejecting the ratification of the Omnibus Law which is considered not to side with the common people.

At 21.00 WITA students then began to block the Trans Sulawesi route and attacked the Nasdem Party office which was located in front of the UNM Campus.

Apart from destroying the office, a minibus and two motorbikes parked in front of the party office were also targeted by demonstrators.

Not only that, an ambulance unit belonging to the Nasdem party was also burned.

However, it didn’t take long before the action ended in chaos when a group of people started rioting by pelting the DPD office of the Nasdem Party which was not far from the location of the action.

The Nasdem Party office was damaged. Office glass was shattered. An ambulance that was in the yard was pulled out by an unknown person and set on fire.

“I don’t know who attacked first, but suddenly an ambulance was burned,” said Esa, one of the residents who saw the arson incident.

Local residents who started to become angry then attacked back by throwing stones at the rioting mob.

Clash then continued by throwing stones and firecrackers at the UNM Makassar campus.

Until this news was published, the police are still trying to reduce the chaos. It is also not clear who and the motive behind the attack on the Nasdem Party office.
